You’re Not Failing – You’re Parenting

Some days it feels like everyone else has parenting figured out.

Other parents seem organised, calm, and somehow on top of everything. Their babies nap on schedule. Their homes look lived-in but not chaotic. They’ve washed their hair and done their nails. And they love to tell you how their baby has been sleeping through the night since 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, you’re just trying to get through the day.

If that sounds familiar, let’s start here:

You are not behind. You are parenting. I’ve been there.

The Quiet Work No One Sees

Parenting isn’t just the visible ‘Instagram worthy’ photos, smiles and outings.

It’s the invisible work:

  • Responding to cries in the night
  • Learning what each sound means
  • Carrying mental lists you never asked for
  • Making a hundred tiny decisions every day

None of that gets measured. But it matters.

Presence Over Perfection

It’s easy to believe there’s a “right way” to do this.

Sleep routines. Feeding choices. Milestones. Schedules. Screens allowed. Screens not allowed. It’s endless.

But, if something works for your family – even if it looks different from everyone else’s  – then why shouldn’t it be valid.

We don’t all enjoy every moment. Parenting is hard.

You don’t need to turn every day into something memorable. Babies and children find joy in the simplest of activities.

Your child doesn’t need a perfect parent. They just want one who is there, even on the days it feels messy or hard.

Phases Come and Go

Some phases of parenting are loud and demanding.

Some feel joyful.

Some feel lonely.

Some seem never ending.

But the truth is, none of these phases last forever – but while you’re in them, they can feel all-consuming. Since becoming a Mum, my life mantra has become “it’s just a phase”, and when I became a Mum for the second time, I was able to remind myself of this (over and over again!).

Trust Yourself

You know your child better than anyone else.

You know their cues. Their needs. Their rhythms. Even when you doubt yourself, that knowledge is there.

Parenting isn’t about following every piece of advice – it’s about learning which ones to work for you.

You’re Doing More Than You Think

If today felt hard, or like you didn’t achieve anything, then remember that you kept your child safe, fed, and loved – and that is what counts.

If you’re tired, overwhelmed, or questioning yourself, that doesn’t mean you’re failing…

It means you care.

Why Keepsakes Matter: Preserving the Moments You’ll Never Get Back

The early days of parenthood pass in a blur. Sleepless nights, long days, blurry eyes, endless nappy changes, and countless feeds! And before you know it, those moments you think you’ll never forget about have passed in a flash and become a distant memory. We all take photos, of course (hundreds of them some days!) […]
